Hurting

So when is it exactly that she will be able to tell us what is wrong??  She has been crying nonstop every night for the past 3 night when we try to put her down to sleep, now this is a baby that has been pretty much a perfect sleeper since getting over her colic at 2 1/2 months old.  She has been inconsolable at night the past 3 nights so we figured it was a developmental change coinciding with either the crawling or the new tooth. So trying to be good parents we built in a better bedtime routine and tried not to let her cry too much while still allowing her to fall asleep on her own.

Well this morning the crying continued, she couldn’t get to sleep at nap time for anything.  We tried everything to soothe her and nothing was working so I called the doctor who is always wonderful and got us in half an hour later.  It turns out that she has her first little ear infection in her left ear!  Poor little thing has been having issues with being laid down flat because the pressure it is putting on her little infected ear drum!!

Had there been any other symptoms; pulling at her ear, a temperature or anything else I would have had her to the doctor 3 days ago!  But instead we allowed our little one to scream at night with assumptions, allowed ourselves to think our perfect little sleeper had suddenly become a little monster at bedtime and that we were loosing our parenting battle already!

I reiterate, when can she start telling us she is hurting??!!  Because at this point I plan to call the doctor for everything!!  I don’t ever want my little girl to be in pain for 3 days without me doing something about it!!

As my husband would say, “this parenting thing is hard!”
